Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), Where We Would Be.

Coming from out of left field, this solo works when it shouldn't. Feedback-over-ballad is a new solo format for me, unless there's some Robert Fripp bits I'm forgetting. Fripp is obviously an influence here, but you kind of sense that Wilson's guitar was barely under control, and he was wrestling with it when he cut this part. It's as raw and wide open as Fripp's work is calculated and controlled. This solo was the first bit of music that really grabbed my ear with this band, which has since become a favorite.
